My transmission had went from me never getting the speedometer readjusted , and my mechanic had told me he thinks only the dealer can do it, for the fact of it might not be reprogramable. Now before you guys say he's not a real mechanic transmission was rebuilt 10 months ago, still under warranty so he changed the 1st gear band that broke.

As far as I know, you need the dealer to do it OR get a tune.

When we re-geared our 2006 Mustang I got an xcal3 and a tune (minor tune) with the change for the gear ratio. I guess you could always use a speedometer healer like the Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator BUT for a little bit more you could go with a tune too.

With that said... I can't see why fixing/replacing the 1st gear band would change the speedometer reading...

I put on bigger tires making the car go 5 faster then what the speedo and trans read so shift points ####ed me in the ass and blew the trans

Ahh.. That makes more sense... while 5% isn't "that bad" it is like going from 3.73 to 3.55:1 gear ratio, plus the extra tire/wheel weight...

In 3 months it destroyed 1st gear band so I guess it's kind of bad

Do you know what gear ratio you have? Unless you started at a tall gear ratio (say 3.27:1) you really shouldn't kill the trans by changing the tire height by 5%.

Of course, the real solution is to re-gear but for a 5% change I typically wouldn't bother since that's a good $1000 job (depending on what else you do at the time)..

Honestly unsure of what gear ratio I have got a 2008 v6 4.0 xlt x4

If you have a 2 inch hitch (tow package) receiver than you're geared 3.73 stock; if you have the 1.25 inch than you're geared 3.55 stock.

Oh alright got the 3.55 thank you for the helpful info.

if you just had the trans rebuilt I would say its a case of blame the last thing you did.... I would put blame on a faulty band before blaming the tires..... if it was the factory trans it could have been caused by the tire size but I still doubt it..... i am running a smaller tire and its only off by 4mph at 70mph.... how off in the other direction can you really be

Well it gave me the code for gear 3 incorrect ratio , which is usually tire related.
