Hi all,

my speedo stopped working. I have replaced the VSS on the rear differential, but that did not fix it. I am currently trying to diagnose the cause by following these instructions:

http://www.2carpros.com/questions/1997-ford-explorer-1997-ford-explorer-instrument-cluster

I am kinda stuck on the 3rd step. What the heck are "speedometer pins"? And where can I find "B", "G", "I" and "S" as mentioned on the Speedometer Printed Circuit Check picture?

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yup most likely worm gear... and ditto on pics of the xp8 (unzips pants and waits for the **** :P)

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)
Actually, I had been a member for quite some time, but when I tried to log in, my email wasnt recognized.... oh well.

Anyways, thanks for the hint on the worm gear. Now if you could explain what the heck it is.. :) Do I need to remove the printed circuit to get to it?

I hooked up a spare instrument cluster yesterday, but the speedo wouldnt work then either. But I am not sure if the reason for that is bc the cause for the speedo not working is not within the instrument cluster or the spare instrument cluster it not compatible with my Explorer.

Coming back to the link I posted... do any of you know what is meant by "speedometer pins"?

And yes, I will post some pics :)

Cheers
