Does anyone know what size socket for the spindle nut on a second gen? Need to know so I can torque the new bearings properly.....and I don't have another car to go get one after I check myself.

I use a 1.25 6 point socket. Make sure you get a long ass breaker bar. I use a 5' one to break the spindle nut loose..

I forgot to mention that I have 2WD. Is that what you have?

Mine is 4wd so I'm not sure if its the same.. It probably is but don't take my word for it.

4wd Front spindle size

I use 32mm or 1.25 (- what ever I can dig out first from my disaster of a tool box :) ), on the front hub nuts of my 4WD 97 Expy.

96 explorer 2wd here, I bought a 27mm socker for the nut. You shouldn't need a breaker bar to break it loose, it should only have 20 lb/in of torque on it. that's after the 17-25 lb/ft of preload torque. =) Hope that helps.

That is exactly what I needed to know, thanks. 120 lb/ft preload? Everything I have seen previously said 17-25 lb/ft.
