The Sport I ordered back in September finally arrived. I drove to the dealer tonight and took a quick look and the panel gaps look good. What else should I check out before signing on the dotted line?

If there is one constant throughout these threads, it's that you should inspect the car only in clear day light and weather. Several members reported wheel damage etc probably caused in transit. Others have reported paint flaws involving the hood and roof area adjoining the roof rails. One person reported a scratch in the leather.

I've had my Sport for a month and still haven't found a single problem. My advise is to take your time and don't let kids nor anyone else distract you.

Hope you enjoy the new ride!!

The keys.............

Check the cargo strap tie down points located in the rear panels in the very back. One of mine popped off under pressure from the cargo bungee strap. You can't just push them back on, once they come lose from their stud they will always pop off. Just give them a slight pull and see if they are sturdy. I am calling the service dept. today or tomorrow to set up an appt for a new one.

Whenever I pickup a new vehicle from a dealership, I alway prepare a very simple document stating, "this vehicle, VIN #........... has not been repaired during the transportation and delivery process". And ask for a senior manager of the delaership to sigh-off on.

It is a very little know fact, depending on State Laws, that a dealership is NOT responsible to report accident damage and repairs on a vehicle prior to being sold to you. Unless you ask. If you ask, they MUST disclose the damage and repairs.

My simple document forces their hand.

Go for the chrome dealer name sticker and the dealer license plate frames.
My dealer said that they will leave them off if asked. As for me, I'm not ashamed of where I bought mine, especially since it is an out of town dealership that provides better service than the local one. Great service and great personnel. More than happy to help out.

The Sport requires 93 for the turbo engine?

No. From the manual:

2.0L/3.5L EcoBoost engines
“Regular” unleaded gasoline with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87 is recommended. Some stations offer fuels posted as “Regular” with an octane rating below 87, particularly in high altitude areas. Fuels with octane levels below 87 are not recommended. Premium fuel will provide improved performance and is recommended for severe duty usage such as trailer tow.

No, 93 is not needed to run the vehicle. It will however give you the best performance of the vehicle.
I use 89 octane. And plan to use 93 when I tow.

The statement 87 is recommended but higher octane gives you better performance is a no brainer for me. I bought this Sport to get all it can offer.

Congratulations on the new ride, kirksjeep! I'm sure the two of you will have many fun adventures together. You should register on http://owner.ford.com; in addition to downloading important vehicle documents like owner's manuals and warranty guides, you can make service appointments and get valuable coupons.

If you ever need any assistance, feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks!

We took posestionof our Ruby Red Sport last Friday, and I used the checklist posted. The tailgate alignment was off as it seems a lot are. There were some light scratches in the passenger side rear door and the worst problem was that the passenger side, middle row bucket seat had the seat bottom foam protruding from the side of the seat. It looked like the seat fabric wasn't assembled right, but the dealer has to order a new seat to fix it.

I dropped the ex off today to be fixed under warranty today. After 7 hours in the dealer service center they managed to align the tailgate and buff out the scratches. The dealer gave me some lame excuse about the rear seat and not being able to connect to the Ford warranty center via Internet and could report the seat to get it fixed??????? I was also supposed to have a Nano treatment applied to the paint and interior and apparently sales and service don't talk and that didn't get done either.

When did quality assurance for a $45K+ SUV get so bad? My 02 F150 Harley Davidson Edition was perfect, but maybe because it came from SVT. Also, whe did the customer service at the dealerships become so bad? Its like dealing with morons and I feel like I should be writing out my request with a crayon.

Hi kirksjeep,

I want to get your case escalated so that your regional customer service manager can work on getting these issues resolved for you. To get started, send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name; I'll get in touch with your CSM and ensure that you're contacted promptly.

For what its worth, Ford is doing a ton of work on their back end computer systems and very well could of been a problem getting logged in. I look daily on the fleet.ford.com site for updates on my vehicles, and there have been periods of downtime. My dealer also mentioned issues on their end with computers totally unsolicited. Doesn't forgive any of the other issues you are having.

Don't paint all dealerships with the same brush. My dealer and their service dept have been fantastic. Sorry about your luck...perhaps you should consider taking your EX to another dealer for service.

You are right that there might be good dealerships and I just found a not so good one. The other Ford dealer in my area did the repair work to my f150 after I was hit by a moving truck. The quality assurance was so bad I refused to pick the truck up 4 times after they said it was done, but I kept finding mistakes. Maybe I am just picky, but I expect perfection from professionals.

One a good note, Crystal the customer service rep took my info and the regional service rep called me today. Hopefully things turn around.
