I just got a speaker box for christmas with 2 8" subs and 2 horn tweeters. It's rated at 350 watts each channel. (There are two channels). Anyhow, I was wondering about sound deadner. Where do you spray it? My car rattles like crazy.

i dont think you need to go as far as sound deadner w/ 2 8's, but if you want to stop your rattles stuff your pannels full of rags or put weather stripping around were they touch the metal

Well, I figured spray on sound deadner is less expensive than buying a bunch of rags. The 2 8"s are freakin loud. Don't forget, there speakers are about 3 inch diameter that can run anywhere from 5 watts to 150 or more watts. I've seen it. It's the bass that makes the car rattle. Oh yeah, how do I stop the T-Handle and liftgate window from rattling? Plus, I have another questions. The two channels each a tweeter and sub. No crossover for the sub or anything. So when I turn up the bass, the subs are fine, but the tweeters are distorted because of the low frequencies going into the tweets. should I make four channels? two for the two tweets? and two for the two subs? that way I can put crossovers on the sub channels, and then leave the regular amp wiring to the tweets? I think this would be better, but any suggestions would be most helpful. Thank you.

well a bottle or sound deadner is about $20 a can and you can pry do your rear pannel real good if your conservative, it takes a bunch to do the hole thing, go buy some bass blockers, they will cancel out the low sound for ya, cheap too

if you want your truck to bump good you shouldn't have a sub box with tweeters in it. If you are going to run this box i would highly suggest disconnecting the horn tweeters and running a low pass crossover set at about 125 with a sweet spot set between 60 and 80Hz. With 8 inch subs you wont get any frequencies down under 25 or 30Hz. The best thing to do would be to sell the box that you have and buy a single good sub and run some decent wattage to it, if you are desperate, you can get a 300 watt jensen at wal-mart that is like 100 bux and works pretty good and buy a 10 or 12 inch pioneer sub because they are cheap. i am runnin 12 inch inifinities and kappa speaks all around and have set up a 4 runner with 4 12s and needless to say they bump, but if you are just lookin for more clarity, use crossovers and ditch the tweeters, or run flat response with the bass blockers like that other dude said, but that just sounds cheesy compared to doin it right.spend an extra 100 bux, it will sound so much better

well, I can't take the box back. I got it for christmas. It's got some bump to it. It's plenty for me. Anyhow, is there any way besides spray on sound deadner and rags to keep the car from rattling.

Also, I find that when my liftgate window is down, it rattles horribly. But when I lift it is fine. I won't mind driving with my liftgate window up in the summer, but the winter will be much colder. Is there any way to fix that?

Also, The box has 2 8's and 2 Horn Tweets which we have discussed. The are very good speakers. Which I can bust as many as I want in a year, and they are replaced for free! (Busted for any reason too.) Well, anyhow, my other question is what if I make four channels? one for each speaker. Like having two channels for the two tweeters and two channels for the two subs. This way I can put crossovers on the sub channels and then leave the tweeters on the regular level. Does anyone think this could work, because right now, when I turn the bass up, the subs are fine, but....the tweeters are very distorted because the low frequencies going to the tweeters.

Also, what do you mean finding the sweet spot 60 hz.? I have a clue of what this means, but please explain.

And what is bass blockers? Please explain these.

I'm really sorry about all the questions. I know what I'm doing like the regular speaker stuff, I'm really good at figuring things out, but this is really high tech stuff for me, thanks everyone! Any suggesstions welcomed!

what kind of amp do you have?
does it have a crossover?
if not do you have an external crossover?
i would HIGHLY reccomend not using the horn tweeters at all, because they are sloppier than other tweeters.
What BRAND of sub box do you have, that helps a lot with troubleshooting.
What brand, model, and wattage is your amp, and if you turn the bass down on your head unit your door speakers will be clearer because i am betting they arent amped, and you can turn the volume up higher without distortion. cant help ya with how vague you are in description

there is nothing to prevent window rattle.
the top hinge liftgate windows are notorious rattlers unless you get extra thick rubber grommlet around the window, good luck with that, its a pain.

Well, currently the amp I'm using is the Stock amp in the Explorer. Don't worry, I'm getting another amp. The wattage mine can hold on each channel is 350. There are two channels. Nobody has probably heard of this company, but the name of the speakers are "Legacy". They are really good speakers even though many people have never heard of them. I'm not sure if they are popular are not, but anyhow. The amp I am getting does have a crossover built in. What I did to install my box, was disconnected the back two speakers. I took the right speaker wire, extended it and plugged it in the right channel of the speaker box. And then, did the same with the left side. THis way I can turn it on just the back speakers and none of my door speakers will be running. This way causes no distortion in sound from factory door speakers. Dead Link Removed Oh yeah, and I figured I would just leave the back window open for most of the time, riding down the road, besides I like the fresh air.
Thanks for any you can give. Dead Link Removed
Then I can be cruising Dead Link Removed .

my explorer has 2 15's with around 700 watts to each, and belive me I have ALOT of rattle, I took care of the gate by taking the panel off and putting insulation between the plastic and the metal, also the liftgate handle I put a black rubber band between the handle and the base... the little groove you'll see it..

to fix the window you can get weather stripping and put it around the rubber where the glass rests
it may be harder to close but its much better than rattle IMO
still havent fixed the damn t handle rattle

Legacy is a Pyramid brand.

You will get better results using the more common sheet or roll noise dampening materials.

You can run the subs off 1 channel and the tweeters off a channel each if you wanted, but like others said I wouldn't run the tweeters, or take it back and get a single sub, single amp, in a box made for the subs. You can get a jl power wedge from tweeter for $150 I beleive, comes with subs and box then get an amp. Or watch bestbuy, they have sub deals with 2 subs, box, amp for $300 I think. Would get much better results with something like that.

if you think 2 8's rattles your car, i had 2 12" l7 solobarics in my 01 sport, and that thing had so much rattling and vibration in it, that it broke a lot of plastic screws throughout the vehicle
