i have a 94 explorer my truck will sputter for a few seconds when i start it up. if i prime it a few times by turning the key on and of a few times it starts up normal. i put some of that berrysman stuff in there when i gased it up. truck runs good theres no hesitation. i just bought some plugs and wires i need to install them. i do smell gas but its like that sweet funny smell i smell every once in awhile. im hopeing its not the head gasket or cracked heads cause i just got the head gaskets replaced. im gonna take it in to do a fuel and compression test to make sure i aint loseing anything. just thought i should post this. thanks:burnout:

A sweet funny smell usually indicates a coolant leak, not gas. Are you having any smoke on start up? White usually indicates coolant burning, blue smoke means oil.

1st thing I'd probably do would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if the pressure is coming up to spec when the key is first turned on or not.

how hard is it to do a fuel pressure test

That's coolant burning. You have two things that will cause this: head gasket failure (common) or a cracked head (not so common). Since I see you have just had the gaskets replaced it is possible that they were not put on properly and are leaking.

Maybe replace the fuel filter?
