More than likely its either the belt tensioner or the idler pulley.

Good luck .......

Thanks for you're help. Iwill try the idler pulley first easy to get to.

Belts

When i raise the rpm's on my ford ranger truck the belt tensioner flexs a little is that suppose to happen are is that normal. Just wondering if that my be causing my sqeaking problem.

I've 'merged' your two threads - they are related - no need for two threads.

i have a 99 explorer 4.0 with 99,435 mile son it....just replaced the serpentine belt because i thought that's what was making the dreaded "chirping noise" (plus th eold one looked pretty ragged.) Unfortunately it is still chirping, so i have been googling my ass off trying to see if anyone has figured out what it may be and have read many different ideas. After i replaced the s-belt i didn't notice the sound coming more from the rear of the engine compartment. Some sites said it is the flex plate and some say u-joints...who knows?? I just know it's buggin the crap out of me and come monday im taking it to the ford dealer unless miraculously i find a cure online before then!

I would suspect either or both the belt tensioner and idler pulley.

Good luck ......
