I changed the plugs in my 230000 mile 2000 AWD Explorer. Truck was running ok, but I knew it had a bunch of miles on the plugs. Original wires I think, they have 1999 printed on them.
The old plugs were Autolite 764s, I installed APP 104s, and the truck idles much smoother, but when you rev it up, you get a snapping, clicking noise from the coil pak area. Thinking maybe I cracked a plug, I picked up a set of Motorcraft SP 432s today and put them in, the noise was a little better but still there.
Could I have broken a wire? It idles really smooth, and I don't see and arcing in the dark.
Are any of the aftermarket sets at Autozone any good? I don't want to spend $150 for a Motorcraft set for this old a truck.
I was planning on taking it to Ocracoke this weekend, and am scared to drive it with this noise, which seems to be at its worst around 2000 rpm,
Thanks
Rick Edwards
