Just like the title states, I have this wierd squeak and rubbing type sound coming from what seems to be my passanger front wheel. Its only while braking, and only while going under 20MPH. Seems to change volume(can't think of the word to use) as the wheel goes around. Sort of pulsates. I feel no vibration or anything, just the sound. I tore the front apart last night. Took the pads off, lubed everything up. The only thing I noticed was the inside pad on the drivers side was not fully contacting the rotor. The rotors and pads look almost new.

So throw out your ideas. This is driving me crazy and I really don't want to take it to the shop and look like a goon!

Bumpity Bump! Would this possibly be the dust shield? Is there a way to remove those damn things?

Yeah you can remove the heat shield but I don't think that is the issue since it only happens wile breaking.
As a test, you can eaisly tweek the heat shield. They are pretty thin.

I'm not sure what to think at this point. As soon as my extended warranty kicks in(if it hasn't already) I'm taking it to the Ford garage and let them look at it. Why not get the good parts? I don't have to pay for it :p

I had what sounded like a squeak/rubbing sound some time ago. Pads were good, practically new. Took it to a brake specialist and he said during the dry season, you get a brake dust buildup from the current generation of pads. The old generation used asbestos which apparently tolerated wear better, and didn't leave an accumulation of dust...something like that. He said in wetter weather, the noise should all but go away. Sure enough, I'm quiet in the rain.

So once the snow season rolls around, I should be fine?

When you mentioned that you “lubed everything upâ€￾, did you lube the Caliper Slide Pins?
The pins were the cause of my odd noises while braking at low speeds.

I have this very same problem on the same wheel too. It's still noticeable in the wet weather, but primarily when the brakes/suspension are cold. I swapped in new Explorer Express sway bars front and rear the other day, and that didn't change the problem either, so I know the sway bar bushings aren't involved. I'll look for the TSB.

Seems to be this dust seal/cover thingymabob. If I get a chance I'll stop at the shop. I should still have my 1000mile warranty with the place. Although its giong ot be up soon :(

Does anyone have the part number for these? Are they easily replaceable?

The heat shield is not an easy replace.
ya gotta separate the hub from the bearing.
Doing that successfully is like removing the yolk from an egg with out breaking the shell.

Thats why we paid the $1200 for the extended warranty! Thanks folks! :D

My problem was rust on the back of the front passenger rotor. After machining it, it's silent.

Took it to the shop yesterday and the guy thinks its most definetly that seal/shield/cover or whatever it is. So he's gonna take a closer look Monday. :D
