This is proble a really stupid question, but...

My front end is squeaking like crazy every time I hit a bump. I have determained that it is the bushings in the front, but how do I get it to stop? It has gotten worse now that I did the T/T and shackles with 31s. The explorer looks good now, but it sounds like crap.

if it is squeking it may be bushings needing grease. if it is clanking torsion limiter might be hitting frame

Got the upper control arm bushings replaced yesterday, no more squeaking! The mech said it is a common problem with newer Explorers(95-00) that doesn't get reported, because it tends to be an on and off squeak untill the bushing totally goes. He also said that in his opinion it happens enough that Ford should have made it a recall idem. They replaced both upper control arm bushings for $216(I have a $100 deductable on my warranty so only paid that).

I had the same problem, with the same fix, with the same comment from the tech! Same deductable too on my warranty. I guess we're like brothers, haha!

I am wondering if this is my problem I have a 2000 and have had a squeak since I bought it, it started on the passenger side and now appears to be squeaking on both sides more on the passenger side. Can you tell me where it seemed liked the squeak sounded like it was coming from when you were driving?

I 've got the same sqeak on my driver's side, but it's like you said, it's only on and off. I guess my bushings are going bad too.

Mine was coming from the drivers side. It sounded like it was coming from the front, but it was loudest arount the tire. The control arm is like a v. It has two armes that come from the engine and merges at the tire. All I had to do was push on the bumper and I could hear it. It sounded like an old truck. It was a loud squeak that actually sounded like the shocks were bad. I tried spraying silicon on them and the squeak got softer for a while, but it never went away completely. The only thing you can really do is take it in and get it looked at. Mine eventually got so bad that it would squeak even when I got out of the truck.

I have the same problem. it seemed to have started a couple days after i went mudding. Can i just grease the bushings with a grease gun or do i have to replace the whole thing?

i have teh same problem and im thinking about having a some new bolts made with the grease holes in it. The bushings arent going bad... they just get harder with age and dirt getting in there and start squeaking.

so it is the bushings? i mean it squeaks for me everytime i turn, press the brakes, accelerate, and just changes in terrain.

95 if it does when turning it is the ball joints. Put it in park and turn the wheels. If it make s acontinuous squeak as the tires are turning its a ball joint squeak. Jack it up and grab the wheel and the top and bottom and see fi you get any play. if you get play its bad ball joints.

I had an on and off squeeking from my bushings when the weather got cold this winter. I hit them with some WD40 and it seemed to clear it up....for now at least.

I had the squeak last week....lower passenger side ball joint was the problem.

nissan... thanks i think that is the problem. do have an estimate of how much that might cost? o yeah the other side started squeaking today. do u think this could have happend from mudding?

i jacked it up and pulled on the tire but it didnt move. i guess they arent bad yet.
