just today while i was driving, i noticed a slight knocking noise. it doesn't 'knock' all the time. only when i'm driving slowly or braking. i've also noticed a loud squeaking noise as i brake. are the two problems related? and if so, is it still safe to drive? (i wont be able to get it checked out until next week)

thanks in advance

Check your radius arm bushings. They make those noises when they are worn out.

thanks!

so it has nothing to do w/ the brakes, bearings or joints?

The Radius Arm Bushings (RAB's) themselves don't have anything to do with the brakes, bearings or u-joints. I didn't say your noises couldn't be brakes or u-joints, I just said that MOST COMMONLY that sound is the radius arm bushings being worn out.

You might also look into lubing the slip yoke on your driveshaft. That can cause a nice little knock sometimes. But the squeaking is often RAB's.

doe they also clunk once in a while???
and why would my front left brake clunk a little bit every time I press the peddle (when moving)...almost feels like a bearing but there would be other tell tale signs...any ideas??

i got the truck looked at today. turns out it was the u-joint. thankfully it wasnt too expensive to get fixed.
