On my 2002 ranger I have a squeal that started up that is driving me crazy. It is coming from the pinion area. Originally I thought it was the ujoint so I replaced that and its still there. I just had the shop replace out the diff oil too which had only been in there a year because I had them install a eaton tru-trac lsd in it. This is a standard 8.8 28 spline rearend with stock 4.10 gears and the truck only has 69k on it. Behind the pinion flange there is a gray plastic cover that spins with the flange and it fits into an orange seal. If I have the truck in gear and I stop the plastic cover while the drive shaft is spinning the squeal is still there so I know its not between it and the oil seal. However, if I pry the plastic back a hair and shoot a spray of wd-40 into the orange seal area the squeal immediately dissapears until I drive it a couple of blocks. I am guessing the pinion bearing may be the problem? Of course when I had the shop take a look at it they couldn't get it to recreate and changed my oil (under my request) and just slapped it back together. So now I'll be looking at paying for another round of oil before getting this fixed. Anyone else had this problem? I figure its going to be a costly repair to pull the axles, diff, pinion, and replace the bearings and crush sleeve. It was $600 for them to install the lsd the first time.
