Squeal when engaged

I have a '93 sport. When the temp outside is cold and 4 x4 engaged I get a squeal that goes up and down with speed. Same thing when out of 4x4 but hubs still locked up. Goes away with warmer outside temprature or unlocking hubs.

A few possibilities (in no particular order):
axle seal
spindle bearings
u-joints (axle and/or driveshaft)
differential (it does have fluid in it, right? Been changed in a while?)

Thanks for the info. I suspect it's the axle seal.
