I started hearing a squeek at the front passenger axle area about 4 weeks ago. I was too busy to do work myself and had a shop look at it. They said it was breaks I said no but they insisted so I went ahead with break job. The squeek was the same.

The squeek is there all of the time and does not vary with breaking. It varies with rolling speed.

It sounds like its near the outer CV and rotor connection area. Its there about 75% of the time and quiet the remainder. Going in and out of 4X4 does not alter squeek nor does breaking. can't see any visible signs.

I am leaving on a 4000mile trip in 2 days. ANY help will be appreciated. I asked 2 shops and they both says its nothing to worry about, but I want to make sure its not a seal or bearing?

Any comments appreciated.

The dust shield on your hub assembly has failed. It's just an annoyance, nothing serious. There is a TSB, but it does not apply to my model year truck so I cannot post it for you, but Ford does have a fix for it.

jason.. what years does that tsb apply to and is it a free fix by ford?

edit: ok i completely missed the part about you not having the info on it. doh!

i dont about all the years it applies to, but it applied to my 98, and im like 99% sure it applies to 99's also. as for the other years, im not sure.

was it a free thing to get fixed like under the 75k extended or something?

mine was free. i think it was a tsb, but im not 100% sure; i dont know if there was a limited mileage on it. i was still under warranty, so if it wasnt a tsb, it was done for free for me anyway.

It's not part of an extended warranty program, so you'll have to pay for it. But I think you can order the new seals and do them easily. I think it just affects 98-99's.

ah ok.. i can live with it then. thanks guys.

It's the Dust Boot Covers and Hub Seals. Had it done under warranty many moons ago on my '99. It's not a recall item. Also, only really happens when it's cold, so if you can make it thru the winter, you can save up and have the work done next fall!

Is this squeek a very high pitched, lots of little sqeeks in a row kind of little bird call squeek? Cause I got one on the front drivers side, i think.

It's more of a steady squeal, not sqeak. Yours sounds more break or bearing related.

I know its not brakes because i just did them, changed pads up front and rotors and pads in the back. I doubt its bearing because it just randomly happens and turning has no effect on it. It almost sounds like there is some cargo in the truck thats just vibrating.
