When I start my truck, my RPMs immediatly go up to approx 1500, and then drop way down, sometime dying. What kind of problems am I looking at?

Firstly Welcome

Secondly

It could be as simple as a sticking IAC valve. If you do a search then you will find all the info you need on cleaning/replacing the IAC. Try cleaning first as its cheaper (free).

Does it settle down when warm?
Any funny noises?

All the best

Howard

Do you have the SOHC 4.0 engine?

If it only does it when the tempature is cold outside and you let the truck sit overnight then it is probably the 00M12 problem. Do a search on 00M12 and you will have all the answers.
