My starter continues to run after the engine has started. Also, it continues to run after turning the ignition off and removing the key. I replaced the solenoid and the ignition switch module located at the bottom of the steering column. Anyone ever had this problem? Need help asap please.

When it rains it pours....had a brake pad shatter last night and sounds like my pass. side wheel bearings are shot.

So you replaced both the relay/solenoid an dthe ignition switch and the problem continues.

I just had the same problem, anyone know what would cause this?

I think I fried my started though. Don't seem to start as quick anymore. THe starter has also seemed to have had a dead spot for a whlle. Sometimes it will not turn over the motor like battery is weak, just try again and it starts fine.

There is also a solenoid integrated into the starter, might need to replace the starter unit.

I just thought of something. The ignition switch is actually located at the bottom of the steering column. The keyed switch just pushes a bar down to the switch which in turn switches the actual ignitoin switch. Maybe the bar is not sliding back properly and keeping the ignition switch in the start position even though the keyed switch is not, it could need lubricating or possibly a new spring. Make sense?

The problem could be in the steering column. You didn't mention if you replaced the starter itself or not. I had the same problem on my 88 Suburban and it was anoying as hell. What I found was the new starter I bought was 5/16 of an inch to long. So I traded it for a shorter one and it works perfect. This of course after I re-wired everything and it still didn't work.

Starter finally burned up, replaced it and all seems good now. I don't see how the starter is getting any power unless the relay on the fender is closed though.
