Hey guys,
Im having a problem with my 97 SOHC lately when it's a hot day out, or the engine is already warm i have been needing to give it some gas when trying to start it up or it just sputters and either eventually evens out or stalls. Ive already tried cleaning the IAC and MAF, it helped for a short time and then went back to the way it was, i was thinking that the IAC may just need to be completely replaced, but anyway please let me know if you have any ideas.

Disconnect IAC valve & ECT sensor

You can try starting the engine and then disconnecting the IAC valve electrical connector. If there is no change in engine speed then the IAC valve is not working.

Have you checked your coolant level? If it is too low then the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor may not be in contact with the coolant.

Have you tested the ECT sensor? If it is bad then the PCM will set the fuel mixture incorrectly.

same thing happened to me. I would clean the IAC and it'd be fine for a while then went back bad. I just had to replace it

Definitely sounds like you need a new IAC. Same thing happened to me and cleaning it didn't help. New one solved the problem!

I've had the same issue in the past as well but my idle is fine. At stoplights she idles at 500 rpms like she should. It's the get up and go and fuel milage that is suffering
