Hey there guys/gals. My wife's 02 EB is having some issues starting and where better to ask than here.

The tank(nickname) starts fine most of the time but it seems like once it is warmed up it will not start. She can get a jump and everything works just fine for a while.

The first time I noticed the cables were a bit loose so I tightened them up. A few weeks later it dies again and needs to be jumped again. Once she gets it home I charge up the battery and low and behold the dome light in back is on. Just yesterday(it had been a few weeks) she says it barely turned over enough to start so I hook up my battery charger and it reads 11.8 volts or so. Again I charge it up and the dome light in the back was on so I don't think much of it until today. I charged it last night and installed it in the tank and today she gets about 60 miles away from home with the kids and it won't start after getting gas. Here I could mention that I rode my bicycle 12 miles(one way) in 20 degree temps so she could use my Jeep, but that doesn't help with the problem. Anyways, she finally managed to get a jump and made it home. I get home from work and the tank starts right up and reads 13-14 volts(I don't remember exactly) while running. The battery was replaced the beginning of last winter with a cheap Autozone Valucraft 65-VL. Again it started acting up while she was on a trip with the kids and her dad. Nearest shop had this and only this battery that would fit.

Is my battery bad already or is there anything else I can look at? I will be taking the batt to Advanced Auto Parts later on to test it but figured I'd poll your collective wisdom also.

Also, I just charged the battery and did an alternator check(on the battery charger) which came out fine, however the dash lights do not work now. I can see the Odometer/info center and the airbag light, but the tach/speedo and all the gauges won't light up. Thanks for your help and sorry for the scrambled post. My mind is everywhere right now so just ask and I'll clarify anything.

-Hans
