Hey there,

I'm new to the forum and man do I like it.

My problem and the reason I found this forum, (looking for answers online I found it in a google search) is that intermitantly my 2000 limited with a V8 won't start. It just clicks. I'm pretty sure that it's the solenoid but first I wanted to check the starter relay.

The problem with that is I can't find the starter relay. Is it possible that mine doesn't have a starter relay? I'm confused. If this is so then the next step is to check the solenoid, correct?

The starter was replaced about 1 year ago so I hope it isn't that. can someone please give me some advice on this.

Thanx

What is the condition of the battery cables/posts? Make sure they are not corroded.

the battery cables are in good condition, there is no corrosion evident. and they
are tight. Also when trying to start it, it just does a single click. then after waiting a while, it will start normally.

When it doesn't start, try gently tapping the starter with a hammer. If it starts right away, then the problem is within the starter or possibly the connections at the starter.

Cables

Check your connections at the starter. I have had problems with every Ford I have owned with these after replacing the starter. Either the cables corrode almost all the way through at the starter, or they get corrosion on them that extends up into the cable underneath the insulation. My F-150 was doing the exact same thing, and then, it quit starting altogether. I had replaced the starter about 3 months prior. Hope this helps.

Had the same problem. It was the pos battery cable. looked fine on the outside, but it was corroded on the inside. Also just because your terminals are tight, doesnt mean that they are making a good connection. I would look at replacing the cables/cable and clean the battery posts.
