The last 6 months I have owned the car I have had no issues starting the car.
This weekend was the first cold weekend in my area getting down to 35 degrees.

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer sport with 170,000 miles on it 4.0L SOHC.

Today it took 15 minutes to get it started. It was not a baterry issue.
The engine would turnover but not start
Finally by pressing the accelerator I got it to start
Any idea what would cause this?
And how I can go about fixing it.

Thanks

Fuel pump comes to mind. Could you hear the pump spool up when you turned the key to ON?

X2. Try turning the ignition switch on and off several times (pause a few seconds in between each time) and see if it improves the situation.

Also the CKP sensor connection can do that also, try wiggling it around.

fuel pump - been there done that (multiple times).

What fuel pump do you recommend for replacement?

If all you need is the pump itself (fuel gauge working normally, fuel pressure regulator working as it was designed) I'd just get a Bosch replacement pump off eBay. They run around $60 and you'll also want to replace the strainer sock and fuel filter (total around $80-$90 in parts). I've replaced all 6 of my Explorer/Mountaineer and Sport Trac fuel pumps with Bosch fuel pumps with the past several years and have no issues at all. You can spend less, but considering how much work it is to change a fuel pump, I wouldn't recommend anything else. The first replacement pump I bought was an Airtex, which lasted 1 year.

Here's the kit I used. It comes with everything needed (and a lot of extra stuff) except the new filter and strainer sock:

I am looking at a Delphi pump from Napa.I want to buy the full assembly. It looks like a nice unit from what i can tell.
