I have a startup noise chirp from the engine compartment for about 3-5 seconds every time I start her up. Any suggestions, has a new serp belt?

The thread says most common cause is the belt, which I have replaced. Looking for other ideas. Thanks!

chirping can be a failing cam position sensor shaft.

With mine it was the tensioner. I replaced it and it went away for about a month and came back. Upon further research I found the the belt was too long which in turned lead to another failure. That's with a 4.0 sohc hope it helps ya out.

+1 for the syncronizer. If that fails completelly, you will loose the oil pressure (it drives the oil pump) and the engine will be toasted in seconds.

Does this part really exist on the 4.0L V6 SOHC?

The SOHC doesn't have a distributor, so I wonder if this problem occurs on the SOHC engine? If so, where is the part located?
