I am having a problem with my '93 Explorer 4x4 Sport. When I make turns left or right the steering will not return to center and will pull in the direction I have turned. The front suspension linkage is only 2 years old and I lube all fitting regularly, which includes three of the four ball joints (one original). I don't believe it's an alignment problem, cuz it rides fine at highway speeds. Here in Michigan the weather has been changing so much, it seems to occur when we get warmer weather. What I want to know is does this sound like a problem in the steering box or with the power steering pump??

Thanks,
Adam

More likely the steering box than the pump. If you've messed with the steering box's adjustment, that may be the problem. But overall it sounds like there's binding somewhere in your steering parts.

Never messed with the box... truck is basically stock... After calling the local auto parts store and finding out that the steering gear will cost 400 bucks.. OUCH... I took some other advise and drained out as much fluid as possible from the power steering system and added new. The first time in 120,00 miles. A bit overdue. Gave it the long test ride and all is well. Only cost $8.00... lucky...

$400 bucks:eek: the last time i got a reman box it was $139 with a i think a $180 core. So changing the fluid took care of it? that's great if it did.

later:redexp:
