I've had my '93 Explorer for about 6 years now. I finally opted for a body lift and decided 3 inches will do. Some friends and I did the lift but I ran into a huge problem with the steering extender. As soon as the lift was done a binding in the steering occurred. I have to turn the wheel out of turns because the binding is that bad. I believe the extention Performance supplied is a poor design but I see no one here has had this problem. Any advice? The rag joints are cracked as a result of the binding now, before I replace them I wanted to solve the problem. Is there any type of after market "hinge" can get? I'm totally lost.

Ryan,
I had the same problem - but I never used the extender. My problem didn't go away until I rebuilt the steering gear. I can't attribute it to the rebuild either - it may just have been because I took the box off and put it back on. Your problem is very common though.

i put a 3 inch body lift in my 91 and the only problem I have is a slight leak in it. I think that is only due to the fact that they said to do the driver side first and I did the passenger side first. When I jacked up the body fluid started pouring out. other that have had no problem with binding or anything.

SO EVERY ONE WHO INSTALLS A BODY LIFT HAS TO GET THE EXTENSION FOR THE STEERING SHAFT? ALSO I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO PUT TOGETHER THE SHAKLES LIFT AND THEN A BODY OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND OR IF THAT COMBO WILL JUST CAUSE A HORRIBLE RIDE?

Thanks for the replies guys
Jon thanks to you,
I guess what I'll do is remove the extender and see if that works. I'm alittle concerned though. I would think the extender would be needed. Can you confirm you put a 3 inch body lift on your truck and opted not to use the extender (PA right?). If this doesn't work I'll have to
take the box off hopefully not.
