Steering Gear Box Set Screw Question

What does the set screw do to the inside of the steering box? what does it tighten/move?

(ive read all kinds of things that only make the image of what is in there more fuzzy. id like to understand it.)

The screw changes the distance between the gears in the steering box. If you get it too tight it won't return to center. If it too loose you get steering play between the box input and output shafts.
