When I turn I get a really noticable growl. I'm thinking that maybe its the power steering pump. Here's why I think that. Back in August, I replaced the motor on my truck. In the process, I had to drain the power steering reservoir to move the bracket that holds it to the motor. Well upon reassembly of the motor, I put the wrong fluid in the power steering reservoir, I put Mercon V ATF, where it says to use just Mercon ATF. Well not long after doing that I noticed the steering being notchy. I couldn't think of a way to fix it, because I'm sure its gotten into the rack and everything.
Fast Forward to today. I'm driving my truck, and when going around a turn, my growling is accompanied by a clunk, clunk, clunk, as if the vehicle is in 4wd and the axles are binding. Now I know the trucks have Auto 4wd, but mine seems to be stuck in 4wd.
This is really pissing me off, as I just dumped $3k+ putting a motor, wheel hubs, and misc parts in the truck. The damn thing is only worth maybe $7k at the most.
I know this is long, but does anyone have a clue as to what the hell is going on with my truck.
