Hi, would appreciate some input on a steering leak. 2002 Explorer XLT failed inspection due to steering rack leak - oily boot. I have noticed some vibration in system and had to put some stop leak in 3 months ago. Having a closer look at the steering boot i felt around and found a loose rod connecting the two sides of of the steering - it plugged into the top of each rubber boot. I pushed it back into the hole. Could this be where my leak is from and what is the purpose of this rod? Why isn't it connected more securely?
