I have a question for the forum - So my steering wheel comes with the audio, phone, and cruise control buttons, but is missing the fan speed on the left button cluster. Is this as simple as buying a new left cluster with the fan speed button included (plug and play), or is this a more complex problem like having to rewire/program?

Also, my black leather wrapped steering wheel is beginning to wear along the top. I can now see a dull gray underneath the top coat. Is it easier to try and repair (paint or reupholstered), or would it be easier to just swap out with a used one in better condition? I did see in one thread the OP replaced with a polyurethane version to eliminate the possibility of the leather wearing again. That could be a solution if I can find a black version, but I do like the feel of a leather wrapped wheel...

What are the steps to removing the steering wheel on a 2008 Ford Explorer? I've removed a whole steering wheel assembly on a 99 Ford Taurus once, but that was a few years ago, and I don't remember if you have to do something special with the airbag or not. Not trying to get blasted in the face!

I suggest searching YouTube for how to remove/replace the steering wheel. You will probably need to swap the airbag to the new steering wheel. As for the buttons, I don't know much here. I wouldn't be shocked if they need to be programed or if the existing connection isn't right for the other type of button configuration.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. As for the videos, I tried searching the ole YouTube but came up short. Found a few for 3rd gens but nothing on the 4th except for some ignition switch/turn signal replacement videos.
