How to Remove stock steering wheel and install aftermarket wheel on 95-01 Explorers

thank you for this tute. I just did this but i used a grant wheel. It almost lined up perfect even with the offset adapter(top arrow to side). But i couldnt live with almost perfect so i drilled new holes in the wheel adapter (not hub adapter) to get it perfectly straight.

Boy I just bought a whole wheel because my cruise control switches are collapsing!!! Did not know I could have bought the switches!

Ya, at first I thought it was a dam gecko going after some armour all. But I then came to realize that the dam switches just disintegrate with the heat of the suns reflection through the windshield. I am putting on the new wheel this weekend. Was shipped along with a radio to Houston then my Sis brought them down to Belize for me. Got to make a pulling tool first. But yes, that is part of the fun when you "diy". . Face the real challenges head on!!!!

NOW!You would not believe this. Was so eager to get the wheel. I have to confess that I just installed it this past Wednesday - 2 years after...!!!! LOL!!
The whole job took 35 minutes including the 15 min waiting time after disconnecting the battery!

Now the inside of my "ride" looks nice and new again! Intend to keep it another 2 years as I have just recently only passed the 90,000 miles mark. Have replaced ball joints, shocks, tie rods, sway bar ends etc.

She still rides so smoothly!

hey bud. Beautiful instructions you laid out. What I'm wondering is I need replaced my clock spring. So I need to do everything that you did. do one of your pictures show the clock spring or can you describe it to me? Please

Note the wire colors going to the cruise switches and their type. Locate them as they exit the steering column under the dash. Solder additional wires to them at that point, leading to your choice of switches you mount on a panel you fabricate to hold them (or buy a ready made switch panel) and bolt it to a metal structural support near the bottom front of the dash.

These are generic instructions, first poke your head under the dash to find a mounting location. If you find nothing you like, you may need to dril holes and bolt a cross member bent to a shape that puts the switch mounting where you want it. Another alternative would be to route wires to a center console bin next to the dash (if your vehicle has one free to use) and put a top cover plate on that bin to mount the switches in.
