Steering wheel swap

Hey fellow explorers. I have a 96 sport with a steering wheel that is falling apart. It currently has cruise control buttons on the wheel. I'm wondering if I could swap with a 2003 explorer/ranger wheel with the same setup. Looks the same in pictures but we all know those can be deceiving. Please help

I was in the same boat. I ended up getting some new cruise control buttons (min fell apart) and got the following steering wheel cover. Makes everything look stock all over again

The clock spring (which connects all the electrical components from the column to the wheel) are different between the years.

Thank you for the previous thread. Much appreciated. What would to think about taking the clock spring from the old steering wheel and mounting it with the new one?
