I was wondering if I would benefit having a sub for the music I listen to. I listen to classic rock such as ZZ TOP, Lynard Skynard, AC/DC, AEROSMITH, Bad Company. George Thoroughgood. I also listen to some metal like Metalica, DRI and what not.
I just put in a CD HU with a set of pre-amp out puts and would like to instal an amp but it is hinging on if I need a sub or not.
Thank You in advance for your help:)

I think you will find that a lot of the music you listen to has bass that you dont hear in a normal stereo, and the sub will bring out that bass, and make the music sound a lot better. I found myself going through all my CDs when I got my system because they all sounded so different! Good luck!

I agree with VairKing, no matter what type of music you listen to, I think that a Sub makes it sound better, and bring out a sound that you didn't even know was there, whether it be like just 1 10" sub or 4 12" subs like myself, anything is better than nothing.

if you have money sure definately get a sub, it will greatly improve sound quality, you dont even need to spend wads of cash, get like a 10" sub that will fit in some type of stealth box which goes on the passenger side of the cargo area where the little cubby is, just make sure the sub isnt too deep for the enclosure

Does anyone beside MTX make one that fits where the factory sub is? I don't want to shell out $300 just for the custom fit sub.
Would it be possible to use my factory sub and just buy an amp?

You would even be ok with a good 8" sub. The stock sub isn't that great. If you're already gonna do a sub might as well do it right. However, I believe the stock sub is 6.5". If you can get a good 6.5" sub and decent amp, that may be enough; and you could just do a swap and keep your "stealth".

I used to have 2 10" subs. I then switched to a much better 8" sub and it sounds much better now.

You may be able to use these or something similar: Dead Link Removed

im not positive but the Rockford Fosgate HE subs don't look all that deep but I could be wrong. Best thing to do before you buy is figure out the maximum depth you can have, and then go to manufacturer websites and it will tell you the mounting depth of any speaker they sell

rockford has a 6.5 sub, i know its small but if you want to replace your stocker, than thats the way to go....
i think its an he series mentioned above...

for stealth boxes, you cant beat the q logic with a (any)
sub in it, someone on this forum has one built into that cubby hole area, looks like a sweet idea.....

and any sub is definitly worth it to 'hear' the full intent of the music.

also check www.jlaudio.com for stealth boxes, they make them with subs installed already, i think some may already be powered, not positive if they make them for our trucks but its worth a look

I listen to alot of the same stuff and im going to buy a pair of good 6x9 and amp them. That way you get a little extra bass but a lot more good sound.

POSex92, I'm shopping for speakers also. I will probably go the same route as you then add a sub later.
Thanks to all that have respoded all ready:)
