I noticed for about a month that the sub would cut out every now and then. I also noticed that if i switched off the radio (while the sub wasnt working) then switched it back on again, the sub would come back on for a half a second then cut out again. Now the sub stays on but there is almost no base. I can only hear some really muffled, spluttery sounds like the speaker is blown. I pulled out the speaker and connected it to my home stereo and it plays music fine with no distortion but of course there is no base comming out of it. Im not sure if its a bad sub or a bad amp? Any ideas? If its the amp, how can i test it and how do i get to it?

If there's no bass coming out of it even when connected to the home stereo chances are its blown. The OEM subs were never built to last for a long time, 7-8 years is actually a pretty good lifetime for them.

When you took the sub out and put it to your home stereo you only took the sub out, correct? The amp is installed just in front of where the sub and box are, and I think it might even be mounted to the box itself.

Either case, the OEM systems aren't cheap to get your hands on, and still are of rather low quality. You could almost get aftermarket stuff that would sound better for the same price as a new OEM sub.
