As I am starting out from a stop and increase foot pressure on the accelerator pedal, there is a bit of a stickiness as I depress the pedal until it finally breaks thru and I am able to accelerate normally. It's really annoying! It seems like the accelerator cable needs to be lubed as if there is some kind of binding along the length of the cable. I've lubed visible linkages.

I am a little afraid to disconnect the cable and slide it out of the sleeve because I might throw something out of adjustment. Also, I can't figure out how to disconnect the cable at the far end nearest the throttle body.

So, is this sticking due to lack of lube or some other thing? Thanks, guys!

I have the same problem with my 98 Explorer 4.0L SOHC. I remember a recall on this issue back around 1998, which I had the dealer perform. The issue has now resurfaced, I think it may be the throttle body again but I don't know.

Yep they had a recall on this a while back. Under the recall they replaced the throttle body for me. I had the same problem. It works fine now. It's definitely something you want to get fixed before you put it through your garage door by accident.

Should be free at your dealer but call to be sure.

Mine was doing that. The throttle body collects a lot of debris and grease that gets in the way of the fly. I cleaned mine out and it works fine now.
