Sticky Auto Gear selector

My 03 xls gear selector wont go back down past drive. Had it replaced once already under warranty but now its playing up again. Has this happened to anyone else? Any quick fixes (instead of whacking the dash!)

Disconnect at push-rod at the main arm on the transmission and make sure the transmission can be shifted back down to Park. If so, then the problem is up before the trans.

The transmission shift fine. I'm pretty sure that the problem is with the dial itself. If I give the dash a 'tap' it will go back down to park. Its like there's a bit of crap in there making it stick.
