Stiff Gas Pedal

So I tried in the modified section with no success in answering my question. So I guess Ill try here.

I have noticed that my gas pedal is quite stiff. My mom has a 2003 xlt and the pedals between mine and hers are completely night and day. Does anyone know how or if there is a way to fix this problem.

Is the pedal itself stiff or is it a response issue? Does it feel like you give a certain amount of pressure and then it goes, almost jumps.

I had the same problem...the tip-in was just too much. Exactly as Number4 described. I realize Ford tries to sell on the test drive, but this too strong tip-in sucked for regular use.

Too much response in the first 1/4 of pedal move, and not enough in the other 3/4.

No amount of 3-In-One will fix this...I initially tried that route. Finally helped fix the problem with a tune from Henson...which also helped with the (lack of!) throttle time response.

Thanks guys. The pedal itself it quite stiff. When I go to accelerate it almost have to stomp on it. its not gradual at all.

Is there a butterfly valve between the air filter and intake? I know it's a dumb question but have you made sure the mat isn't balled up on the gas pedal?

^^^^ never discount the floor mat. No matter how silly it sounds.

Might have a sticky throttle body butterfly. Take it off and clean it. Install a new gasket and torque the 4 bolts to spec. Inspect the intake and pvc hoses for cracks.

I don't think its the floor mat. I have already checked the throttle body and cleaned it but I didn't get a new gasket or torque the bolts. I think it is more the pedal itself than any of its mechanical parts.
