I've been reading more than posting lately and something I read today in a post raised this question. My 96Ex has been idle for about four months. Been chasing a no-go situation that may seem like major slip off the line and not enough to get rolling anything but downhill. What are the odds that the no-go situation I have in all gears is due to a bad torque converter? I have good pressures and with four wheels off the ground, I can drive through all the gears but it seems to go haywire about the time the converter would lock up.

Any thoughts?

It would be a uncommon failure but it can happen, I have seen converters lose their stall speed before, like a stall speed of around 1800 and then something inside the converter fails and the stall speed is now around 5000.

I would remove the pan and inspect for debris, even if the converter failed it may have filled the trans with metal and you might have to go through it anyway.

Thanks, JK. The plan has been to drop the pan and filter the contents. Seems like every weekend we have had rain. This one may be a rare exception. I'll report on what I find and what if any confusion it creates.
