Hmmm... how to phrase the question.

bought a 1991 EB 4WD a few weeks ago. No driving or fog lights and no obvious place to put them (other than drilling holes in the chrome front bumper which is not how I want to do this).

fwiw, this deals with stock lighting and not 'performance' lighting and it also seemed like only 91-94 people would know so I'm posting here and as well as on the performance lighting list.

Saw someone else's 1991-1994 EB a few days ago and that X had a body piece hanging below the front bumper with factory cutouts about the size of H3 lights. Cool. That X did not have H3 lights installed, it had some weird looking lights that did not fill the cutout area but it got me to thinking.

If I find one of those 'air dams' (what does Ford call that part?) with the H3 light holes (from someone parting out an X?), was there a factory driving or fog light offered by Ford?

This X will only be used on the hwy. to tow a small trailer and a lot of motorcycle racing gear. My daily driver has H3 driving lights aimed low and wide; makes parking and low speed maneuvering a lot easier at night. That's the kind of lights I would like to put on the X; clear H3 driving lights with wide dispersion.

Any suggestions on what kind of light to mount if I use that body piece?

The limted had the bumper with the cutout's for lights. But there also was a lower valance option that had the cutouts in that part for lights as well. Either one was wired to a switch that is below the rear wiper switch on the left bottom of your dash. You can see there's a spot for a switch there.

As was said the Limiteds had that valence. The Limited was produced only in the 1993 and 1994 model years for the first gen. The Limited valence will fit on any 91-94 though. It's just a matter of finding one off a wreck. Also Explorer Express sells a new one, I think.

Blazer makes a light that will fit well in there. I have a set of Blazer fogs (fogs = amber) that I bought at AutoZone that have lasted 3 years and only cost $15 each. But I'm sure they make a driving light (driving light = white) of equal dimensions.

On my '92 XLT, I opted for mounting Hella 530 fogs in front of the air dam, below the bumper. There were already holes in the bumper the right size to fit the threads - I only had to drill small holes thru the plastic air dam in the same spots. I've also seen many Explorers where the owners made their own cutouts for the lights to mount behind. The Hella lights are a bit more expensive but produce a very nice beam pattern.
