Hi everyone,

I am trying to get my Dad's Explorer handling right.

We've had a 1996, 1998 and now the 2001.

This one just does not handle well at all.

WAY too much "bounce" in the ride.

It has always been "bouncy" but it is also "squirrely" side-to-side.

Hit some expansion joints on a bridge last month and almost lost it at 70!

I don't want this to happen

The truck has 137,000 miles but had new rear shocks put on last year (115,000) along with new rear sway bar link and bushings.

I'm not sure about the fronts.

Tires are GY Wrangler RT/S P255/70R16.

What can we do to screw this baby down? Front and rear.

Should ride like a truck, not a Lincoln!

Can we make this handle better?

HD shocks or what do you suggest?

Thanks!!!!

Is it a sport or a 4 door?

It's a good chance your leaf springs are weak.

Sports up to a certain year were mono-leaf. If you have a 4 door or multi-leaf springs you can use an AAL (add-a-leaf).

I have the same tires and i hate them. they don't seem to try hard enough to find the grip when there is only a little to be had. mine (154K+ mile) is riding on the same old shox its always had ( i assume, they look like crap) and i like to rip through the turns myself so you probly want to start with tire pressure. if thats fine and nothing obvious is presenting its self it probably wont hurt to change the front shox. Explorer express has some suspension stuff, sway bars, shocks etc.
