The stock sub would be in the rear panel you removed to see the stock amp.

If your back cargo area has a pocket with a net, then you do not have a stock sub. My 96 XLT did not have one.

i thoguht thats where it would be but do u have any idea what that thing is thats back there to do with the radio? i read that some explorers have the "brain" in the back and the radio is just the display for it. but im not sure if thats what it is because i took the radio out from the dash and it seems like its all right there. im thinking maybe a previous owner had that display problem that is common and switched radios?

That "thing" back there is the amplifier

Is there a small plug and a big plug going into the factory amp??

yea there is 2 plugs in the bottom of it, but i dont see any sub

I guess you do not have a factory sub...if you did it would be clearly visible behind the rear passenger panel.

i just dont get why i would have the amp without the sub

if I remember correctly from removing my stock amp and sub combo the amp is actually mounted ON the sub enclosure itself

I have an amp back there for my door speakers...its just an upgraded system...factory speakers sound like crap anyhow
