I've got a stock '94 4x4. I spent the weekend doing ball joints, radius arm bushings, axle pivot bushings and 4 new shocks. I installed Explorer ProComp ES3000, front and rear. When I dropped the truck off the jacks, I noticed the front shocks bottomed out. Is this normal?

I emailed Explorer ProComp and they didn't answer my question, just that the correct shock was a 15 inch shock, which is what I got. The folks at fourwheelparts.com said that "Fords are like that."

Any comments would be appreciated. The truck is a lot stiffer now, which is good, I just don't want to be doing any damage to it.

Thanks

If your shocks are bottoming out then that will do damage to the shock. It could bust the bottom shock mount if you hit something really hard, also it could cause the upper mounting pads to overly ware or crack and break apart.

If you think they gave you the wrong shocks pull one of the fronts off and messure it fully extended and full compressed. Then repeat the process with one of your stock shocks. This should let you know if you have the correct shocks.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Mark, thanks for the input. Your comments made me call foruwheelparts.com back and this time the rep said he's send the part number Explorer ProComp said--they originally sent a set which was supposed to be the same length, but with a bigger variety of bushings. Anyway, he's sending the other set.

On a whim, I called Explorer ProComp and promptly found out I was sent a set of 18 inch shocks in boxes marked as 15 inches. That would explain it.

Again Mark, thanks for the help!

cheers
