Ok so a buddy and i decided to go look at this hill we been playing on all summer, and since its rained on and of for the past week or so, i wanted to see if i could make it up which turned out to be easier then before, due to it being all packed sand instead of loose like this summer has been, but as i looked at the second trail i decided i was gonna go down the one taht looked worse, as i start out i tryed to stradle the washout ruts which ened up being worse on jmy part because i ened up in the ruts any ways, so as i sat there with the driver front tire off the ground and the pass rear off the ground i wasnt going any where, i have come to the conclusion taht stock suspension just aint gonna cut it any more, thsi winter i will be doing work on the truck and gettin more travel and more lift , so the journy begins far more lift and more travel on the truck, i was high centerd due to the short travel of the stock suspension, we had more fun laughin about me gettin hung up then accually playing like the time started out to be, the worse part about this all was after i got unhung i took off back down the hill and tryed to stay out of the ruts which made me go up the side imbankment more and put the truck side ways as i comeing down the hill with only 3 wheels on the gorund, my driver rear tire was off teh ground for over a 6 foot length as my buddy is sittin at the top of teh hill laughin becuz he thought i was gonna roll, which deep in my mind thats all i could see was the truck going up and over, so like before , now its to begin the journy of never being completely done with it, this is more a rant then anything, but as i work toward getting my truck ready for next summer i will come on and give updates and pictures of the progress, and fill in what all has been done, , im just not sure weather i wanna go with a straight axle under the front or stay with the independent set up, just to clue every one in, the truck will be used mainly for rock crawling and hill climbs out at teh ohv park we have just down the road, i wann build it good enough to hold up with my brother in law how is a jeeper up here, i want to prove to him that a ford explorer is just as good if not better then his jeep, i feel that next summer will be all about who has a better rig and has better drivein skills, , ,,,,,mark

Period.

Good luck with the lift.

ive looked around and have found several sus lifts for the explorers but which would be the best in everyones eyes? mark

There are ways to make the front IFS work very well. However it is probably easier to get a SAS to work well then to spend the money on the IFS. Anyway check out the suspension section and you will find all your answers there.

Welcome to the board and good luck with the lift.
