How much would poor performance be exaggerated with this setup? I have a '92 2wd sport. Thank you.

When we got our Explorer ('92 xlt 4 door, 4x4) we replaced the 235's with 30" tires. We also had 3.27 gears. There was a little difference in performance, but it wasn't bad. Our mileage dropped about 1mpg. We were able to get our speedo re-calibrated by changing the driven gear on the cable. I can tell you that 3.27 with 31" tires is a mistake. We ran that for about 2 months and we hated it. We couldn't get out of our own way. When we got the 4.10's installed all of our performance came back. We have better pickup than we did with 235's with the 3.27s.

So it short.. 3.27 and 30' tire is ok.. just don't expect to be quick off the line (but it isn't bad)

I race my brother frequently. I have a 95 explorer sport. He has a 91 Explorer EB. He was running 30's with a 4.11 rear end, and I was running 235's with a 3.07 rear end. The race was a straight race, no curves. We got to about 70 mph towards the end. Anyway, I would beat him every time, but not by much, maybe half a truck an explorer length. After my factory tires wore down I purchased a set 30's. We raced again, and guess what? We tied, Every time. Although I cannot notice a drastic difference in performance, I cannot outrun my brother's explorer anymore.

By the way my 95 out handles my brother's 91 majorly. After he bought I took it for a spin. I came around a curve going 35-40 and almost slide off in the ditch. The same curve I take all the time in my 95 at speeds of 55-60. By the way the speed limit on that road it 30 mph. I have noticed a more drastic drop in handling than in acceleration.

Just some sugestions if you go to a 30". I have replaced the Air filter K&N and modifyed the air box, changed to SplitFire dual core wires, Bosch Platnium+4's, and added a 235 BFG All Terrain. The BFG have a more aggresive look and ride, however they grip the road like nothing else. I have AWSOME aceleration, with the 3.27 gears. I would not hesitate to get the 30's, that is as long as you do not mind the 'stock' ride. Once all these performances are done you will drop back to the 'stock' acceleration with the 30". You may also lose like 2 mpg.
I can actually feel my rear end drop when I gun it!
I hope this helps
