I have a 96 sport and i was wondering if i need to buy a wiring kit. I am going to start towing a drift boat (which is really light) with a ball on my bumper but i need to have a plug for the trailer lights. Sould my Explorer have a stock plug and if i do where might it be? It does not have a tow package and there isn't a hitch on it. If i need to buy a wriring kit does anyone have any sugestions as to which brand? Thanks for any help.

you still need to buy a harness (your dealer should have this) - but the harness plugs into another plug located under the driver's side tail-light. You have to get under the vehicle to access this plug and its usually tucked-up into the body pretty good so it might be hard to reach.

EDIT: I found these on Ebay - they will fit your Explorer:
