Stoplight switch question 02 Explorer

Hello,

I just picked up a replacement stoplight(brake) switch for my 02 Explorer, I have been having issues with the brake light staying on and killing my battery. Looking under the dash i do not see the plastic arm that holds the wire that i got with the replacement switch.

Will the old connector work with the new switch, or will i have to replace both ends??

Would this be the cause of why the cruise control will not operate as well??
