- 1999 north face
I am a UK based owner of a 99 North Face. I have had this truck for over 5 years now with 115000 miles on the clock. It is totally reliable and great to drive. We have used her for every thing from camping trips to my property maintenance business.
Just recently a "howling" type of noise started as I reached about 20mph. I assumed this was a failing front hub bearing ( 4wd ). I scoured all the forums and watched all the very detailed You Tube clips on this subject. All of them suggested that with this noise so eminent, there would be considerable play when gripped top and bottom of the wheel. ( A UK MOT failure..... )
There was no play whatsoever. When I changed the hub assembly, the noise had gone....my diagnosis was correct after all. The hub change was very easy and undertaken in my drive with only a normal jack and a reasonably good tool kit. Torque wrench needed.
The moral of the story is that not all vehicles exhibit the same symptoms !
