Hey guys, on my 1997 Explorer, when driving at about 45-55 miles per hour, it makes a loud howling noise. I mean, with the radio on, you can hear it. But it seems to only make it when you have your foot on the gas, if you take your foot off the gas the noise stops. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ryan

I have the exact same thing but i have no idea what it is either.....

is in speakers

Huh? No, If the radio is off it will still make the noise, and it sounds like the rearend is going out, but if that was the case it would make the noise all the time. It will only make it when you accelerate, or have your foot on the gas.

Anyone?

it is likely the crown and pinion not being aligned properly.
pop the cover and put marker paint on the crown gear to see how the teeth are messing.

hey

i had a problem like that some reason it make the speakers make a high sqealing noise thats why i ask sorry. But if out side the car check tranny fluid and check front and rear u Joint. i had also had a humming noise from my front u joint on drive shaft before it went out.

Mine is 2wd and it just had a tranny flush, its been howling for awhile now.

ya

it may be the axle but the 8.8 rear end is a really good rear end. It can be many things I am not very familier with 2wd. (WISH I HAD IT HAHA)
