Hi all!

I just did my brakes myself a few weeks ago. I did not get the rotors turned nor did I remove the rotors from the truck. The last couple of days I have heard a noise that sounds like a binding U joint or bad CV joint from the front drivers side. This only happens at low speed (5-15 mph). I have checked the 4X4 system and the hubs engage and disengage properly.

I know I don't have CV joints but the sound is very similiar to a front drive car with bad CV's making a turn.

:( Anybody have an idea what may be the problem?

Bad autohub? Bad bearing? I forgot to take my meds?

I would hate to have to go to the dealer and spend 200 bucks for them to tear it down and not find a problem.

Thanks!

Does it change if you apply the brakes? Could be a U-joint or one of your pads came loose?

Yes it does stop when I apply the brakes.

If it stops when you apply brakes its probably just your pads and rotors wearing in. Since you did not get the rotors turned it may never go away.

It has always been recomended to me that if you change pads get rotors turned.

Give it time it may go away. How many miles since the job.

I have about 500-600 miles on the brakes. I was looking at my old pads and found some metal clips on the inside pads. My new pads did not include these.
Could this noise be from the pads? Do I need the clips? If so can I buy them at Ford or can I reuse the old ones?

Those little clips are actually anti-rattle clips. Their purpose is to hold the inner pad snug on the knuckle. Otherwise the inner pad will rattle between the caliper and rotor until you apply the brakes.
Sorry, but you are going to either sway those over to your new pads, or get use to that annoying rattle.
