grinding noise 98 v8 awd xlt drivers side front

I have a 98 v8 awd xlt that was purchsed used. The left front axle has a grinding noise and a slight clunk when I decelerate and at low speed. I am not real familiar with the awd. I have owned 2 other's in the past but with regular shift on fly x-fer case. Any suggestions or if it is cv joint, wheel bearing, axle, or transfer case.

sounds like your hub assembly is going out. Jack the truck up on that side. Grab the wheel at the 3 and 9 o clock position and try wobbling it. If it does wobble then its time to replace. Also try spinning that side. Also try spinning the tire on that side, if it grinds then you will need to replace it. I have a brand new timkin hub assembly for sale if you want it.
