This maybe nothing or common with the 4.0 sohc engines. Sometime when I go to start it up it will pop right over no problems cold or warm engine. Then once in awhile it'll crank maybe 4-5 secs before it starts. It just made me curious maybe an early sign of an underlining problem.

I posted a question about a week ago about the occasional rough idle issue again every once in awhile after it's ran for awhile then it starts up and the idle is rough but goes right away when driving down the road.

Is there something I should be checking before it becomes a major problem. No service engine lite comes on and it's got about 105k miles on her.

TIA

Mine is doing the same thing. I load tested my battery the other day and it was in the red on 800 CCA. Threw it on the charger but the ol grey mare she ain't what she used to be. Going to swing by Costco and pick up a new one next month. If they have the same deal they had the last time I renewed I should be getting 200 dollars in Costco gift cards when I renew my cell phone contract, that should pay for the battery and a beef loin.

I was also thinking fuel pump, but the battery is on its way out for sure.

Same here. My 4.0 will take few seconds to start after sitting for a while. After driving it, it takes shorter. My v8 cranks in a second.

yea I think it's these 4.0's .... maybe. but gonna pop the hood this weekend and check a few things just be on the safe side. Actually it gets pretty good gas mileage for an explore average about 17-18mph so it's not eating up the fuel.

I am thinking my battery is pretty old, so maybe that's the cause.....

I agree. Mine started doing that, and sure enough the battery eventually died. Took a while, so no need to panic.

Our old 02 has the replace Walmart EverStart MAXX battery in it as it has 3 year replacement warranty. Its been down to -16 -18C the last few days. I started it up and it spun like spring time starting quickly. Its up for sale and I don't like leaving it siting too long. I take it out on errands.
