Today on my 2014 Explorer, I noticed near the top of the liftgate on the driver's side, in the gap between it and the adjacent pillar, there was a foam washer stuck to it and half sticking out of the gap, position indicated in the picture below.

It is a half dollar sized black foam washer, with about a ~1/2" inner diameter hole in it, and one side is sticky like adhesive lined. It's about 3/32" thick. I'd take a picture of it but there's really nothing to see, no Ford part #, just looks like I described already.

It was stuck to the liftgate and looking around, I can't find anywhere it goes, nothing like it on the passenger's side either.

It seems like it would be highly improbable for a truck full of sticky foam washers to be in front of me on the highway, to lose one and have it fly up, over my vehicle, and lodge itself in the crack where the liftgate closes, but at this point it seems as plausible as anything to me since there is nowhere this goes. It is not a waterproofing bushing, all of those are still in place, and are denser rubber than this foam washer is.

This is not my '14 Explorer pictured but close enough to show where the washer was half sticking out on mine.

Anyone know of a place a washer like that goes?
