i just bought a 2000 XLT and found it to have a interesting problem. the left rear power window works great from the up/down swith in the door, but the window cant be controled by the master switch in the drivers door. all the other windows can be controlled by the master switch just not the left rear. any ideas on how to make it work from the master switch?

Since the window works with the switch right on the door, you know that the power window motor is still good, and since the rest of the windows are working from the master switch panel, you know that they are getting power also. This limits the potential problems to that single switch in the driver's door, which measns that either there is a bad connection or the switch went bad. I've pulled apart all of the front switches on my '92 and they have 5 posts for each switch.
You can either: 1) buy a new switch pack (most expensive)
2) dismount/disconnect the failed switch and then pop open the cover w/ a small flathead scewdriver and clean the contacts to the five connections, test, then re-install (cheapest, but worked for me). You have to pull the door panel to get to the mounting screws for the switches.

thta's not weird, same exact thing happened to me

Also check the plate that the switch itself plugs into. My '90 Stang had weird window problems similar to what you described and it turned out that the littly brass/copper clip that the wiring terminated at (the loop that the switch itself plugs into) was mucked up so the switch would loose contact sometimes.

Rob is right about the plate...I meant for that to be included in "clean contacts" but wasn't specific about the plate with the posts. You can even pinch the loops a little with pliers so that they make better contact with the posts.
